For many Canadian visa and immigration applications submitted on paper, applicants must provide printed photos that meet official IRCC specifications. While some online applications use digital images, printed photos are still required for certain paper-based visa, work permit, study permit, or permanent residence submissions.
To avoid delays or rejections, all printed visa photos must follow these Government of Canada requirements:
Photo size: 35 mm wide × 45 mm high (standard visa photo size)
Head size: From chin to crown must measure between 31 mm and 36 mm
Quantity: Two (2) identical, unaltered photos taken within the last 6 months
Background: Plain white or light-coloured, uniform and shadow-free
Expression: Neutral (mouth closed, no smile), eyes open and looking straight at the camera
Lighting & quality: Even lighting, no glare or reflections, natural skin tones, sharp focus, and no digital alterations
Glasses & headwear: No sunglasses or tinted lenses; prescription glasses permitted only if there’s no glare. Head coverings allowed for religious or medical reasons as long as the full face is visible and no shadows are cast.
Finish: Photos must be printed on high-quality photographic paper — matte or glossy — and must not be digitally enhanced or filtered in any way.
Back of one photo: Must include the name and full address of the photography studio and the date the photo was taken, clearly stamped or handwritten.
📌 Important: Photos that don’t meet these exact specifications are one of the most common reasons for Canadian visa application delays. Our team follows the official IRCC guidelines line by line to ensure your printed visa photos are fully compliant — guaranteed.

Photos that don’t meet specs are a leading cause of delays or rejections.
Your face must be clearly distinguishable from the background under uniform lighting.
Even something small like glare on glasses or a slight shadow can cause a rejection.
Having the back of photos marked properly (studio name + date + guarantor signature when required) is often overlooked but required for some passport applications. The official site: Official Government of Canada Passport Photo Requirements
